Get ready for winter

I know! I know! Summer isn’t even over yet and I’m already talking about winter but in our part of the country we have had more days of 70 some degree weather this August than I’ve ever seen in an entire summer.
Winter is a time of deep reflection for me and I guess the cooling weather has started the reflection process early, and since I spent the majority of my 31 years in school, September always feels more like the beginning of a year than January 1st does.
I think September is a great time to look at what you want to accomplish inside and outside of your home this fall and winter. The holidays will be upon us much quicker than you think and preparing ahead of time will make the entire process go much smoother with less stress on you.
I will be sharing the ways in which The Frugal Home saves money and prepares for the next three months of holidays but it may help you now to make a list of what you will be doing for each of those holidays and if necessary, begin putting money back now to help with the upcoming expenses.
Make a list of what needs to be done around your house this fall. Some projects can be completed inside but many outside projects are best done in the fall. The weather is cooler and the insect population is reduced, making it much easier to work on those pipes under your house. This is also a great time to prepare your yard and garden for next year. Trim trees, clear underbrush, or plant bulbs for a jump start on your spring.
If your heating bill was as high as ours last winter you may also want to look into ways to reduce your bill and keep that warm air inside where it belongs.
It may seem too early and you may want to fight the coming cold, but at least making a list of your projects and setting back some money each week will help you when the cold does strike.
