I am helping a friend of mine and this is my 2nd eco-friendly project. He convinced me to help him because loads of people buy bottled water which is in fact expensive when (depending where you live) tap water is perfectly fine. And when tap water is not OK (say the smell or taste) then kitchen filtration will help. I live in London UK, and he installed one of these under-sink water filters. I shamefully admit I use to buy a LOT of mineral water bottle. But not anymore.

So there is my tip. Drink tap water or get a filter. But do not buy plastic bottled water because they hurt the environment badly, and are extremely expensive!

Thank you for your comments. I don't believe anywhere in the article did I say going green for everything is equivalent to being frugal, but the examples I gave are frugal ways to become more eco-friendly.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure we're to the point where "going green" for everything is equivalent to being frugal. That's why the government still has to offer a lot of tax credits for those types of things. But as you mentioned, the costs are coming down and hopefully that point will come soon where you can be eco-friendly and cash-conscious at the same time.
