Beef Lo Mein

This is one of the recipes that we just keep playing around with so don’t expect any hard and fast measurements in this recipe, there just aren’t any!

Frugal Tips for Lo Mein

This should be marinated at least overnight, if not for 24 hours, so you can use a somewhat cheaper beef, though I think flank steak is the best. You could also use chicken, pork, or just veggies instead of beef.

*All of my dinner recipes can be used with dairy or made into dairy free recipe versions. I have a milk allergy while my husband does not so I often try to make recipes in which substitions can be made either way. My dinner recipes are also made to be as frugal as possible.

Gather It Up!

1 lb. Flank steak cut int thin strips
1 medium Onion chopped
1 carrot chopped
1/2 head cabbage shredded
ground ginger
soy sauce
sesame seed oil
2 tbsp sugar
rice wine vinegar
spaghetti or linguine noodles

Cook It Up!

Throw everything but the vegetables in a bowl and marinate at least overnight, preferably for 24 hours. Cook the noodles according to their package directions. Place a small amount of oil in a pan and saute the onions and carrots for a few minutes. Take the veggies out and cook the meat, then throwing everything back in the pan, including the noodles. This is where you will have to play around until you get it just right for the tastes of your family. We spent a lot of time tasting as we cooked to get the right amount of soy sauce and vinegar so keep trying until you get it just right! Start with a 1/4 cup of soy sauce and go from there.

Serve It Up!

We will sometimes eat this as is or we will serve it with homemade eggrolls.
