If you were a writer at eHow and made it through the mess last year with your articles still up, you just lost today.

eHow has sent out emails stating that they will be deleting all user-generated articles from the WCP Program, unless you were lucky enough to be a part of the buyout program in which they offer you a set amount to purchase the articles you have left on their site.

I was offered $122. I will probably take it for a few reasons. One, I don’t have time to put these articles up somewhere else and promote them and two, they’re not my best work anyway. If I put them up somewhere else I would want to re-write them so I might as well just leave them with eHow, take my money, and forget I was ever a part of Demand Studios. I didn’t care to work for the content mill of Demand, though I enjoyed eHow until last year. I do have to say that $122 is less than I have made so far this year at eHow. I never did make a ton through there but their offer is insulting.

If you lost the link to see your WCP earnings (like I did and had to search for!), here it is:

https://myarticles.ehow.com/SignIn.aspx

What do you think about this new move of eHow’s?

So far, I am slowly moving my non-earning eHow articles over to Firehow to see how they do before I start focusing new articles on the site. I have made eleven cents off of about five articles. I know, that won’t buy you anything, but those articles had made nothing on eHow so eleven cents is still better than nothing!

The site could use some updates and a better interface as it seems “old fashioned”, but I think it is just young and has a way to go. As of now, I’m willing to come along for the ride in the hopes that things like article page layouts get better.

Firehow seems to pay based on article views, and a variety of other items, such as comments and ratings. As eHow did, Firehow pays you through PayPal, each month as long as you reach $10. If you do not reach $10, your pay rolls over to the next month.

Have you had success at Firehow?

Instead of articles, you create “lenses” on Squidoo. This makes for a new format that is quite fun! I am truly enjoying this site because it is allowing me to be creative in a much different way than I normally can be when writing an article.

Lenses are broken down into modules for text, images, links, RSS feeds, Amazon products, you name it! This unique format allows you to play around quite a bit and continuously add new information to the pages as well!

Squidoo pays based on ads and affiliates such as Amazon or Cafe Press. They pay through PayPal and you can set up when you want them to pay you, as low as a $1.o0 threshold. So far I haven’t made anything but I have only put up 4 lenses and they are very new. I will let you know how my earnings are after I get at least a month under my belt!

Have you written for Squidoo? What did you think of them?

There is an application process and you must submit a resume and writing samples. This is great as it means they are at least working towards better quality than some of the content mills around (which aren’t all bad, I write for many of them but quality isn’t first on their list!).

Most of their articles seem to pay about $8, so they do pay less than Demand Studios but their requirements seem to be a little less as well. Their article options are similiar to Demand, How-to’s, Abouts, even some Blog posts. Editors will go over your work as well, just as at Demand Studios.

I haven’t wrote an article for them yet but I have claimed an article so I will let you know how the process goes!

They have gotten rid of the WCP, or Writer’s Compensation Program. I received an email this morning stating that I am fine as I am already a Demand Studios writer, many others have recieved emails saying they have been accepted to write for DS or that they need to apply there.

Some are pleased with this change as it should mean more quality work on Ehow but, personally, I am not pleased with it. When I regularly wrote for Demand Studios I was a basketcase, dealing with the copy editors and constantly wondering if this article was going to get me the axe. I eventually quit writing there as my quality of work kept going down because of my stress. Now, many people do not have these issues and work just fine under this kind of format. I had so much more fun writing for Ehow but I will have to move on. Mostly, I’m glad that I didn’t have all of my eggs in one basket.

It is also important to realize that after the 13th of April, if you write for Demand Studios, they own your content.

What do you think about all of this?

This is such an industry change that we can only hope more sites follow through!

For those who are on the fence about working for Demand Studios this may just make you want to put more of your effort into working for this company, especially as you only need over 30 articles a month, as a writer, to qualify.

Here is the letter posted on the Demand Studios forum.

Well, it can! This site is very, very new. Most of the info I’ve found is within the last few days but CloudCrowd looks as if it is working so far!

CloudCrowd lets you choose a simple job with a known payment to do. Your work is then reviewed and your pay is accepted or rejected (for those of you who do Mechanical Turks on Amazon, it is very much like this).

The work varies and pay varies from $2.00 for rewriting text to $.08 for grading that rewritten text to finding websites with text that needs to be rewritten. I made $21.00 today in about 2 hours.

You also get a Credibility rating on CloudCrowd based on your acceptions and rejections. If it drops too low you are no longer allowed to work for them. So far I haven’t found anything that states what “too low” is.

The very best part of CloudCrowd? You get paid within 24 hours, a deposit into your paypal account and you get paid for referrels. I just started today so I’ll let you know tomorrow if I got paid but I have read several posts on different sites today that say they have been paid.

A new site like this may burn quickly or it could take off so try CloudCrowd while you can!

Edited an hour after I wrote this:

I started this at 11 this morning. I just got paid $21.20 through PayPal for everything I had done up until two hours ago for Cloud Crowd. I would have to say it does work then! I wish all the work at home sites paid this quick!

Edited again!

I have received pay for the last three days I have worked, over $80. I would also like to state that Cloud Crowd is brand new and still in the beta stage so there will be a few glitches. Projects will be a bit sporadic until they get enough businessess wanting to work with them and payments from CloudCrowd probably will be a bit off. (I got paid this morning for yesterday’s work, instead of that night like I had been) So far I love it and I love that they are actually paying a decent amount as opposed to places like MTurk. Some people are beating up the forums that Cloud Crowd is a spam. I would like to say, they are absolutely not a scam as I have been paid for every bit of work I have done.

This site is a bit different than other writing sites available online.

Like most other writing sites you can upload articles. Xomba works much like Infobarrel as you get paid through your own Google Adsense account.

I have not written an article for Xomba but I have used their xomblurbs, a snippit of an article, website, or blog, with a link to the original piece. I am currently using it for its backlinks through the blurbs.

Xomba is very easy to use and you can even make adsense money on the blurbs so you can get paid for an intro into another article and a backlink as well.

Have you used Xomba? What have you thought about it? Don’t forget you can contribute to The Frugal Home about Xomba or other sites you have worked for!

Try out Xomba here!

Since I am beginning to get the beginnings of real schedule down again and other sites are not taking up 90% of my time I am trying to branch out again and discover writing for new sites, like Info Barrel.

I am a firm believer in not putting all of your eggs in one basket, especially in the jobs involving the internet. While I try to go for reputable sites that look as if they have very long term staying power, it is the internet, and what may have been there one day can be gone the next. You must continue to discover writing sites that will help you spread your eggs around. I have been hearing a lot about Info Barrel the last few months and haven’t had time to even visit their website.

Hearing from so many who had tried Info Barrel I felt I needed to take the time to discover writing for them myself. I have only posted one article with them but so far I like it.

Pay through Info Barrel is actually through your own Google Adsense account. You receive 75% of the Adsense revenue which is pretty good. This percentage will go up as you write more articles.

I also like that they preapprove your first ten articles, which should cut down on the amount of spam that gets through. As you discover writing on the internet you will also learn the importance of backlinks and I really like the backlink part of writing for Info Barrel. Each article you write has an Author info box where you are allowed to place links back to your own websites, or you could probably use it to link to other articles you have written.

I only started yesterday so I’m not sure what I will actually make there and the article I threw up isn’t exactly a money earner either. I hope to add more articles to Info Barrel in the next month so I hope to let you know how much I make. I have hopes it will be a good place for earning residual income.

Have you worked for Info Barrel? What was your experience? Leave a comment or write an article for The Frugal Home about your experience! Contribute to The Frugal Home here!

Demand Studios is excellent if you want to have work writing for a site that is reputable, reliable and good for your resume. Demand Studio may be one of the best ways to get reliable work writing as they pay every week.

Demand Studios gives you a set amount of articles a week. You can suggest articles for a lower price or pick from their queue for a higher price. Demand Studios writers get paid for work writing how-to’s, about, and how does articles for websites such as ehow.com.

Many people write for ehow.com itself and Demand Studios. Writing for Demand Studios gives you a one time payment for your article while ehow.com does not give you an upfront payment. Ehow gives you a portion of the ad revenue of the page your article appears on. Demand Studios has added some revenue share articles but they own the rights to your articles once you submit them.

Unlike getting work writing for Associated Content, you must apply and be accepted to work for Demand Studios. Once accepted you may only be allowed to write five or ten how-to articles. If you do these well you can often ask for a raise to more articles and styles.

Demand Studios has a strict style code that if not followed can lead to a reduction in article limits or firing. The writing style expected may not work for everyone.

I do not really write for Demand anymore as I am focusing on other areas of my work at home jobs but I did make about $1600 in two and a half months there last year.

Apply at Demand Studios today!

www.demandstudios.com

How You Get Paid

Demand Studios generally pays every Friday for items that have been reviewed the previous Wednesday though there are time when you may get paid earlier or later.

What You Can Write

Demand Studios writers can expect to write How-to, About, or How Does, Fact Sheets, and List articles.

Health Care

Demand Studios is now offering health care insurance.
